Very dark and dingy interface, reminds me of some audio-editing ap. What happened to the nice white play buttons, and the bright blue scroll bars and music store.

iTunes is now much more accomplished as a sopisticated media ap, but the style really has suffured. Doesn't feel like an Apple product!

Oh ya... he's something cheesie... this has been on my mind for a while. In january, Steve demoed GarageBand and showed how to make PodCast. He did that fake podcast and said 'Hi this is steve, and this is my Super secret apple PodCast' then he proceded to make jokes about the next iPod... he said the next iPod coming out would have a 10 inch screen and weigh 8 pounds.
    Well... Tuesday is 8/10

Remember 2 years ago when Jobs demoed Spotlight... he searched for 'Paris' then searched for iMac. Sure enough... the iMac G5 was released at Paris.

I just thought that was interesting.
Way cool, you are officially my new guru. :) Conspiracy theory is a sadly forgotten art.

Apple should bundle the ClickToFlash plug-in into Mobile Safari. It prevents flash from running unless you really want it to run. This should address, in part, Apple's stated reason for not allowing flash (battery drain and stability) as the user would only enable it for those parts of the web that they really want to see.

And, while they are at it, they should enable file uploads in Mobile Safari to upload photos and videos.

I hate only being able to use part of the internet on my iPhone when there is no technical reason I shouldn't be able to do both Flash on demand and file uploads.

Give this man/woman/fish (*delete as applicable*) a prize. In a nutshell, this is precisely why Adobe Flash isn't available on the iPhone - Adobe have never been able to make it work under OS X. I have a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and Flash consumes approximately 120% processor time just to playback a low-resolution YouTube video. Under no circumstances would I want to bring code that requires so much resources to do so little to a mobile device. Can you imagine what this would do to your browsing experience and battery life?

I have a lot against Adobe Flash but it is a fact of life and therefore I would like access to Flash content on the iPhone but it has to be done in a way that is appropriate and, right now, I have absolutely no faith that Adobe has a solution that wouldn't destroy the user experience.

Is that the verdict on the screw issue?

Yes, it is. The screw has always been there. I will say that ours is no longer flush like it was at first. Brushing your hand over it means you feel the screw whereas in May we could not. So, the screw may be more noticeable if this is true for others, as well. I could see it being very annoying for some.

A 4" screen is more important to me than 4g. After using 4'3" devices, 3'5" feels downright puny.

I hope Apple adds translation and Wolfram Alpha to the Siri thing. I'd love to get an answer without typing when I say "Translate in French: Where are you studying now?" or "Solve 1.52 times 8.38?"

Oh and they should offer narration of any part on websites in Safari or texts in Facebook/Twitter...

It'll be cheaper if bought via the Mac App Store, just like Aperture is cheaper than the off the shelf, boxed version when bought via the Mac App Store.

I absolutely adore these attempts at prophecy. Bottom line: We have no idea what the thing will cost, and all we can do right now is make educated guesses.

I'm definitely staying away from this update for now. Something about it actually just kind of scares me. It helps that my week 21 MacBook has only had the mooing issue and nothing else (so far). That issue has gone away with SMC Firmware Update 1.0, and I've had a great laptop ever since.

    I feel rather lucky. :)

I don't get people who avoid important updates. I'd install it just to avoid future problems from forming. My MacBook runs fine with the update, and the fans are coming on less often as well which is appreciated.

Isn't everyone assuming here that the root problem is a heatsink issue? Has Apple ever announced that it was? Perhaps it isn't at all, or that's only part of the equation, and it is in fact an SMC control problem. There's a lot of FUD here - people saying they've had extra screws drilled in their MacBooks which is total BS.

I wouldn't try second-guessing Apple engineers. If they've released an update recommended to make the MacBook more reliable, I say use it.

Absolutely. I'm a bit surprised at all the misinformation (nobody is drilling a friggin' screw in your MacBooks, people).

I could really see that, with the iPhone 3G (it was actually the 3rd phone) and had 3G.

holy crap, when did this happen, now more core solo in the mac mini, imac with new screen size and core 2 duo.

So macbook pros are next, (with a 20" screen size :D )

Apple is now all dual-core technology.

    WOOT WOOT WOOT!

Can't wait for the macbook pros.

(and the return of the newton :D )

If a >=20MB app install needs to be done through WiFi, why a 500-6XXMB system update can be done through 3G?

AT&T and Verizon can make more money when the automatic updates cause you to go over your data plan...

    gotta love all this...

    Hackintosh housed insed a powermac G5 enclosure + Apple LED 27" + 15" late 2009 macbook pro.

Mind giving us a look inside the PMG5 case? ;)

I've wanted to do a mod like that for awhile, but those cases will easily run $100 for something with scuffs, or $175 for a case without, and I just can't justify spending so much on a case.

This is exactly what many said in response to the article yesterday. Delay three months to get support for next gen networks (and who knows, maybe unify the ATT and verizon hardware). Despite all the hand wringing, it's hard to imagine many happy iPhone users would defect over a three month delay.

Much better to get new features three months later than ship in summer without them and have to wait a whole extra year for them.

Being a professional myself I remember having those fears a few years ago. In fact we lost a large client because one of the employees thought that her high school son could do the same level of work that we did. If that were true I would say shame on us, in reality the client came back to us a few months later when the kid couldn't actually produce the same level of edit quality and creativity that we do.

This reminds me of one of my early clients. A radio station that asked me to do a promotional video for a certain price. I told them that I couldn't do it. I didn't have the time, the skill, nor the resources to pull it off. I also told them that there weren't too many I knew in the production field that would do it for the lowball price that they were offering.

They saw my work and wanted to hire me for the job, so I just took a chance at accepted it.

It was my first foray into professional video editing . . . it ended in disaster. Thank goodness I had a contract at least. I say though because even as a well versed college student I still recommended the station to go find a professional to do the job. I had classes, projects of my own, a steady job and girlfriend to mind. I didn't even have a car to get around NOR a decent camera to shoot with.

There shouldn't be too many 16 year olds taking real work from real professionals. There aren't too many 25 years old amateur editors or recent college grads taking work from me now . . . and the work they do get I don't want.
