Apple has released MacBook SMC Firmware Update 1.1 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbooksmcfirmwareupdate11.html), which aims to improve the MacBook's internal monitoring system and address issues with unexpected shutdowns.
A number of MacBook owners have had their MacBooks intermittently randomly shut down on them, an issue which has come to be known as MacBook RSS (Random Shutdown Syndrome). In a recent summary of the issue, including a pending class-action lawsuit (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2132), AppleInsider quotes Ogrady's PowerPage that nails down the root cause of the issue to the following:
"Essentially the heatsink can expand during use, and comes into contact with the lead from the [thermometer's] sensor cable," reads a more detailed explanation posted at Ogrady's Power Page. "A short circuit results, and the SMC (System Management Controller) pulls the plug. Once the system cools down, the heatsink [recedes] and the contact is broken."
As is the case with all firmware upgrades, Apple cautions users to not interrupt the update. Detailed information regarding the update can be found here (http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n304308).

am i crazy or did apple completely leave this out of itunes 7...my booklets are mixed up with the music and so are the music videos...also no more search bar???
Did the Apple engineers forget to add a music video icon on the left side of iTunes 7? Everthing else is there except music video.
This is exactly what I'm trying to figure out: how to find the music videos I've downloaded. Ones that came with an album purchase (as a bonus) are in "Movies". Ones I downloaded separately are just mixed in with "Music" and not distinguished except by the little TV icon.
I'm not sure how one would quickly find their music videos except for manually looking for each one and creating their own playlist with just music videos. Is there a better way?

I don't mean to sound dumb, well to be honest I can't help it :p
But just how much space is this time machine going to eat up?
If it stores a backup of everything, that's going to get huge in a hurry. For example. What happens if I have a 400 MB video file and I make 20 changes, and save the file after every change.
I could see this growing to be a storage monster if it keeps every iteration of everything that I do. That 400 MB video would take up 8GB in my time machine, with 20 copies of it. Do that 100 times over a couple of years and that just gets nuts
Is it only going to store the actual changes and not the whole file again? This is making my head spin, could someone explain how it's going to store backups physically? I know it's not even out yet, but I figure that one of you really smart people already know how this will work. (You're all smarter than me hehe)
Thanks in advance :)

If you run a business, like I do, then you would actually appreciate what they've done. To hire a new designer involves having enough work in the first place, which costs money. You then need to pay recruitment fees (anything from 500 - 5k depending who you use), buy them a new Mac (around 1500+ for a decent iMac), load it with software (around 2k) and then hope the candidate is as good as they interviewed. You're taking all of the risk and hoping that the work continues regularly enough to cover their salary and all of the expenses you just paid out on, when in SMEs it can vanish as quickly as it arrived. So after spending maybe as much as 8k before the member of staff has even started and you've bought their software, to be able to pay 85/m for the software instead of 1700 in one hit is a much needed relief.

Interesting how things change, the forum following the iPhone launch couldn't have been any more different;

Amazing how things change over time, from Apple should do gadgets and just focus on computers, to this in less than six years!
Who cares old man, i'm not looking for threads from 6 years ago. this is the evolution of tech. you dont need to keep specifying that things have been talked about in the past. start a recollections thread or something. you;re the what? fifth whos said that? It's annoying. The past is history.

Target also has them in tomorrow's ad.
Not sure if anyone encountered issues, but I know our store receive five iPad 2s on Tuesday, and then got an internal e-mail on Thursday telling us that we will be receiving a case of five iPad 2s for the Sunday ad, and as such, to hold them until that time.
Yeah, we pretty much sold them that Tuesday. Thanks for the advance warning.
My apologies on behalf of Target if you kept running into stores that never had them in stock.

Some great composers, but Mc Cartney is not the sharpest business tool in shed. Evidence.... Michael Jackson & the fact he lost so much money waiting this long to license the music to a legitimate outlet. Allofmp3.com & bearshare, all the other peer2peer & preloaded ipods being sold stole from all of them big time.
MY friends all have complete Beatles on their mp3 players & computers. Cost probably nada. Whether it is right or wrong people will buy if it is easily available & steal more if it isnt.
SteveO has to be drinking the Beatles kool-aid to give an overgenerous deal.

Interesting... I was about to edit my last post that Apple's site doesn't claim the Macbook has any slots... I can't see any in the Macbook QTVR images either.
It's a USB wireless card.
Seriously, boys. This thread is an amazing pile. "You hate Apple." "No, I don't, you hate hackers." "It's Apple's fault." "It's Bob's fault." "You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!" Blah, blah blah....
It's just a typical security report. Get your panties out of a bunch and have a glass of water.
I will say, the Page 1 report is rather misleading, considering the video. MacRumors should probably modify that.

Should I buy the current MBP or wait for the new one.... :(
Help!!!!!
If you don't absolutely NEED it, practice a little self-control and wait. You'll regret you order if you place it and the new MBPs come out next weeek.

For those having Error 1013 issues, the steps outlined here just fixed my issue. iPad 2 now successfully updated to 4.3.1, though I have to reload all of my apps, music and videos...about 25 gigs worth. Can't wait to try the new update out in an hour or two...

The link does not say Apple will be using OLEDs in the next gens. It is RUMORED.The new Nano tech specs clearly say nothing about OLED. Since OLED has become a hot topic, I'm sure Steve Jobs or the specs would have called that to our attention.
True, but at the same time there two things to consider. A lot better battery life and brighter screen. Those are the two positives of having OLEDs in the first place. True it might just be a rumor, but I guess we'll find out when we get these new ipods. (OLEDS can do pure black)
