My father was a hard working man but he could never think past instant gratification. He could never save money. He did however know his faults and married a woman who knew how to save and knew how to plan for the big picture. When they married he was in debt and in the army. She was at home working to feed their two kids. When he got back they came into a little money, he wanted a new car, she said no. The money was used as part of a down-payment on a house. Fast forward, now there are six grown kids and a house all paid for. Thank god dad had the smarts to let my mother control the family money. Marrige is a partnership. If you are lucky the combination is greater because both give different but equally important gifts to the mix. Many people can not exist in a partnership, some people do better alone, all relationships are different and what works for one may not work for another.

When you look at Steve Job's odyssey from being Apple's CEO, bringing in Sculley, getting stabbed in the back and booted from his own company.
Jobs goes off on his own, founds Next computer, develops innovative hardware, makes alliances with the likes of George Lucas, founds Pixar and comes up with hit movie after hit movie.
Meanwhile Apple goes through the dark ages, predictions of Apple going belly up, they beg Steve Jobs to come back to the helm.
Jobs returns to Apple, gets to work and turns the company around with some of the most inspiring products (iMac) and great market presence.
Then his team comes up with the marvelous iPod. The Macintosh lineup is arguable the best in the PC world.
Things would have been much less interesting if Steve didn't have to make this difficult trek. Sometimes what looks bad can be the beginning of something great if you don't give up.
That is sooooo true. Without Jobs, apple would be in the *******.

I went to a best buy around Boston and asked for an MBP, kinda hoping they'd tell me it's out of stock for now.
The sales person told me they just got in a truckload of the current MBPs on Friday, and they have in stock whatever I want.
He told me in his experience with best buy inventories, he thinks it will take about two more months until the next refresh.

I have an almost 9 month old boy. He was using the iPad to play games by 6 months of age. The iPad *IS* one of his favorite toys and with it's education and entertainment potential, is certainly a good investment. I need to go because he's about to attack my keyboard. I'll give him the iPad to play with :)

LOL, who do you think the NATO military is? France? Italy? LMAO, don't make me laugh! Massive military spending cuts and downsizing was the first thing Europe did during their financial downturn. They couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. The US Military -is- the NATO military. And if you think that we won't send ground troops, you haven't been paying any attention.
It's worth mentioning that my comment is about five days old. Some things have changed like proposals to arm the Libyan rebels and stepped-up attacks on Libyan forces. The whole point of the no-fly zone is to limit the carnage like Lord B (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12314801&postcount=29) said in another thread. And that's where I draw the line. If you have a better plan I would like to read it. But judging from your illegal war comment I guess you're only interested in partisanship.

I haven't? Obama seemed pretty clear in one of his latest speeches that he won't send troops on the ground. If he does I'll call him out and condemn it. It's a stupid idea, also, to arm the rebels. I hope we don't do that.

The idea that religion is the only thing that keeps kids from growing up into terrible people is a bit outdatedThe idea that religion improves people is a bit outdated. The religious are every bit as capable of vileness as the irreligious.

I just cancelled my MacBook+iPod-order... The folks at Apple couldn't say if the back to school-offer would still be valid if I switched iPods so I'm placing a new order on Tuesday so I can save 200 bucks on the iPod :)
What exactly do you mean by that?

You mean rhetorical, as opposed to redundant?
If you're gonna try to use big words, at least act like you know what they mean.
I did intend to use the word redundant instead of that other big word you used (what does that one mean anyway?).
Perhaps I used the word incorectly, now that I look at my sentence. The feeling I was going for is that there is never a shortage of posters who state and restate the redundantly obvious.
BTW...what was your point? Surely you had something critical or insightful to say about what I wrote about Macs or Apple?
Anyhooo... (I know that is not really a word)
...A MB with new Intel goodies sounds alright to me...I am in the middle of a trip and I borrowed a friends PC notebook to use while travelling on boats and trains and such...I feel much more productive, though, I feel like I have been ignoring people, running the risk of looking like a snob;) .
I'll most surely be adding a new MB after they are upgraded. Apple can take a few more weeks if they wish...I need it to gather the funds anyway.

Are you calling those people who bought the iTunes beatles songs stupid?

Hi, did u use a ViBook to connect those monitors?
No sir. Only the vertical screen is connected to the MBP via a Monoprice Miniport to HMDI connection. The other two screens are connected via Dual Link DVI to my PC that you can kinda see under the table (green lights).

I absolutely adore these attempts at prophecy. Bottom line: We have no idea what the thing will cost, and all we can do right now is make educated guesses.
Hence the name of this site: Mac Rumors.
I'll give you that not all the rumors or speculations here are "educated," but if I were to make a price bracket sheet I'd put $29 losing out in the first round and $129 in the Final Four.

The statements by the "Mac"
"I'll be fine" &
"PCs, not Macs"
Constitutes a "challenge to the hacker community"??!

1) Using USB Wlan card.
2) Connects the Mac to the Dell using similar card (can you say self written drivers?) using already set up IPs and settings.
3) Attacks the Mac (how do we know he just doesn't have Windows sharing on and log into existing account on the Mac?).
4) Had they used two Dells', who'd go see their video? Using Macbook gave them maximum exposure and hits.
Cheap publicity stunt!

Sounds like a good system. A person can buy a dummy pc if they want, a linux box, or a Mac.
What if they don't have any choice but to buy your product? All of the Windows OEMs are instant customers for Vista, whether they like it or not. This is how the system works for Microsoft.

how do i know witch week is my macbook
also the serial number is 4H640203Uxx
so i take it it is less then WH but my doesn't even start with WH anywhere in the serial number line
I totally screwed up on my last post about this -- I apologize (and edited it).
4H635 is when I think Apple made the change based on this ThinkSecret post:
http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0908macmini.html
If you have a 4H640, then I think you have a week 40 and should be OK. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong reading your serial#. ;)

Yep, the game has some datapads in all of the various levels. Much like the Terminals in Halo 3, and the Audio Logs in ODST, these are sort of hidden. They all tell a different bit of side story, or back story. Not really required, per se, but they do give some good info if you do hunt them down.
Thanks. I think I saw one, but obviously didn't stand close enough to be prompted to read it. Pity, as I think things like this - and the Terminals in Halo 3 - do add a lot of depth/backstory to the game. I'm just not sure if I want to go back to the start in Legendary to find them all - I'm not sure how I got past some levels the first time! ;)
She sealed herself off because of the Covenant attack on Sword Base, to try and keep herself and her research safe. At least, that is what I took of it.
That might be it. Strange that they don't really explain that in the game.
Yep, both Halo 1 & 2 work just fine on the 360. They have turned off the old Xbox Live servers, so obviously you won't be able to play Halo 2 online, but the campaigns from both games will work fine.
Halo Wars >> Reach >> Halo 1 >> Halo 2 >> ODST >> Halo 3
Cheers - I'd forgotten about Halo Wars; I haven't played that. Does that include the 'first contact' between humans & Covenant?
I also read up a little of the Halo storyline on the wikis, and - while it's possible that they simply skim the surface of it - the rest of the storyline not shown in the games does seem a bit weak and superficial to me. Which is strange, as Bungie storyline/characters are typically nice and enigmatic! ;)
Also I read that Reach may not be the last Halo game. Is the world visible at the end of the Halo 3 cinematics a hint to another game, or just 'keeping their options open'?
