iPod classic has had an amazing run, but to innovate, you have to sometimes leave the old device behind and go with the new. The future of iPod is (and has been) the touch and mini devices.

So this fall, we can expect from Apple...
A 1920x1440 Retina Display iPad 3 (to be released in September)
An A5 powered iPod
and an...
A5 powered iPhone 5 with a 4" screen, 4g, better voice controls, cloud storage and drag and drop support.
Basically, every single thing on this list is about to come true...

I could live with that. Apple is going to DOMINATE this Christmas. :)

The iPhone 5 will not be released until 2012. The next iPhone will be called the iPhone 4G.
Until then, any self-respecting journalist should refer to it as "the fifth-generation iPhone."

just download it, screw those multinational corporations. I'm already getting ripped off by Apple on my extremely overrated and overpriced MacPro. (didn't payed for it myself got it from work) Maybe some of the fanboys should stop kissing Jobs *** and glorify everything his corporation does or says. Why not complain about all the thousands of dollars Apple is ripping off from you by shipping outdated hardware in new machines, comes to think that lately every freaking thing Apple releases has some kind of problem...screen, video card,...etc.
Apple is charging hilariously high prices for memory...when someone comments on it here the fanboys go "...Oh but you shouldn't by memory from Apple" well ok than why the hell are you guys complaining that Adobe or whatever other company than Apple is overcharging..why not apply the same philosophy, if you feel like Adobe is overcharging you than go Coral or whatever other software that fits your needs and stop complaining.
Or just D O W N L O A D it, but i guess the elite or professionals you guys are don't get involved in anything this shocking wright.

I'm not fooling anyone. I live in California. I know what its like to be price gouged for everything cost of living wise. I am very lucky to be able to afford the lifestyle. I would have no problem paying a 10-15% premium for a product made here, that is supported here, and helps develop my community.
Your community? You are a factory worker and make $7/hr?
These comments are so unrealistic. NIMBY ought to be the new nickname for the USA.

I like the dictionary idea. But aren't we getting into the realm of the tablet/PDA now?
The big difference is extreme simplicity and loads of content on a central and popular place, iTunes. Its amazing to see the iPod gradually grow into a multifunctional device and the road it took to get there.

Look... All I know is, if a HUGE, INTERNATIONAL company like Apple can pull off their website without it which gets millions and millions of hits every day and is very well designed and media rich, there is no excuse!
Apple's website was thick with Flash and frames when the iPhone was first announced. It was the "real internet".
Steve Jobs deliberately stayed away from displaying the Apple website on an iPhone for months... because Safari couldn't display it correctly, if at all.
At the time, I noted online what he was doing, and commented that Apple was going to have to totally redesign their website before the iPhone went on sale.
And so they did.

What is the truth exactly? I understand what you mean that 3G was more along then some think but I get the impression (and I could be wrong) that you are saying that it is Apples fault for AT&Ts network issues?
I was referring to this sentence (below) from the article. It's false. The truth is 3G in general, not just AT&T's network was very mature.
Next is the fact that Apple did not choose a chip that was 100% compatible with the network, despite being advised of what the correct chip was, as tested and proven by other manufacturers. I bought the original iPhone as my personal phone, in addition I carried my work issued 3G Samsung Blackjack. When I could not make a call or hold a signal with my iPhone, I'd pickup the Blackjack and it was loud, clear and rarely ever dropped a call. So that was proof positive that AT&T was not the problem.
I really - really like Apple, but dislike some of their tactics like finger pointing when a problem arises.
A familiar example is the very moment that the antenna issue came up, instead of Jobs acting professional and saying something like " we were unaware and will look into it ". No, he had to be a condescending jerk and say " you're holding it wrong". That's arrogant to the extreme, uncalled for, and unacceptable. The only reason he got away with it is because he's Steve Jobs. A man that sadly, many people worship. They have higher esteem for him than themselves. Pitiful really.
Apple waited to adopt 3G technology until is had significantly matured, opting to release the original iPhone as an EDGE-only device despite relatively widespread 3G coverage

what's in the pic:
MBA 2,1 w/SSD (although I'm considering a switch with a MBP)
Apple Cinema display 20" (bought this summer from a UK seller on ebay, works like a charm)
LaCie USB speakers
Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad + Apple BT Keyboard (I'm left handed, so it's a pleasure to have the MT on the left and the MM on the right :D)
iPhone 4 + gelaskin & bumper
Griffin simplifi dock

No I completely understand. I think it would be a good idea. I just don't see it happening from an Apple point of view.

The edu price for 2gb is an additional 112, how far off consumer prices is that (I know a gig for my lappy will set me back 90 but I'm not up on prices for other people's memory).
Don't forget that 120GB HD. It is a moot point though, the HD is easily replaced in the MB.

that is a load. First off the original ipad is hardly 'old tech'. It is still very usable by the right folks. Say little kids that want to play games, granny that just wants it for email, the whole "teach for america" thing.
'Old tech' would be trying to sell a G4 with a PPC processor in the now every entrenched Intel age. There's pretty much no 3rd software supporting it, Mac OS 10.5 is the highest you can take that, etc
I know that the first iPad is not "old tech"; but was a light hearted exchange about selling the old iPad to my BF who is thinking about the iPad....

Yep, more than twice as much as OSX ($199) costs. And that's for XP...
Actually, at $579 Vista Ultimate is ~3x more expensive than OSX. That's just crazy.

I'm not sure about novels but I would love to be able to read articles from Time, Wired, New Yorker et cetera on my iPod. In the past I've copied them from the web and transferred them into a 'note' file for viewing on my iPod. However I'd love to be able to download them from iTunes like a podcast. 99 cents wouldn't be un-reasonable if it's a well written article and it's advertisement free.
I think this would be great - I already read news articles on my 3G phone, and the iPod screen is bigger than that. Novels? No thanks.
Syncing today's news to my iPod in the morning to read on the way to work sounds great. No need for pesky slow download from a 3G network, or fiddly applescripts to download a website to notes on the iPod (sure someone would suggest it - sounds pretty awful to me!).

I hope they brighten the interface a bit. I find it too dark. Also i hope some of the buttons become drop down buttons. It looks way more cluttered then FCP7.
all the improvements i have seen are major approvements. Even though this is an early demo. bravo, apple.
edit: or give us the advanced and regular version UI ;) all buttons that have shortcuts i dont see need for in the UI for an everyday user like me.
All of Apple's professional apps have the dark neutral color scheme so your eyes don't get thrown off because they are accustomed to other colors on the screen. Adobe also moved to this color scheme recently.

I don't think those iPhone shots are real, and I'm not all that hopeful that a phone will be released on Monday, but if an Apple phone is released I will be as excited as I have ever been for an Apple release. Just imagine the syncing perfection and coolness factor.
