Apple needs to do something fast, beause virtually forcing schools across America to take on Macs and whining that Microsoft are big bullies isn't going to help them.
Sorry, i'm being a bit extreme, but i wish Apple would hurry up and do something.
PCs are the competition and releasing an update of a product every six months, while the competition is constantly updating, isn't going to work for them for much longer.
I am shocked to hear you say that "Apples exists to compete with PCs and one of, if not THE major element of that is having the best/fastest hardware!" Apple exists to make money, and part of that means competing with pcs. But again, the motivation is the need to make money, not to compete with pcs for the sake of competing with pcs. Not all users want more power, ease of use is more important than some. I merely suggested that this is a complex problem that requires serious marketing, not simple, uni-variable analysis (eg. faster= more market share). WHere do you consider all the factors of buying a computer? This is why you can never say which computer is "best" At work my pc is tons better than a mac, because I can run ProEngineer (a solid modeling program). At home, my mac is best, because of imovie, itunes, the os, and .mac, etc
Why do you want apple to "hurry up and do something"? You can buy a pc if you want to.

I just had my heatsink replaced last weekend, and I just now noticed the screw. Oh well...
They ADDED a screw?? I mean, they drilled a new hole in the casing???
That seems like a crazy repair job if ever I've heard one.

To all those cutting military by huge percentages, what are your plans to deal with the millions of unemployed that would produce?
I'd move a lot of the defense spending to NASA, renewable energy, infrastructure projects, and job training. The first three can employ a lot of the engineers that are put out of work, and the job training helps the rest be prepared for new more useful jobs.

Thanks, it's a Philips LivingColors LED lamp: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/lighting-systems/livingcolors-clear-080044248/prd/
I don't live in the USA, I'm from the Netherlands. Philips is a Dutch company, so here in the Netherlands you can buy it everywhere.
Thanks, I live in the UK so should be able to find it locally.
Cheers

Yeah, low and behold my battery still starts with a W. If I didn't have battery issues I wouldn't be complaining. But as of now my computer doesn't qualify but I DO in fact have battery issues.
I think every laptop ever made has battery issues. I'm about to get my third for my Rev. B 12" PowerBook if neither of my old ones is covered under this recall.

I’ve always wondered about a ROC company with manufacturing in the PRC, especially since the PRC seems to want to muscle the ROC out of existence.
Regarding Brazil, some people complained about Obama being in South America when things started hitting the fan in Libya, but the US has mostly overlooked South America for too long, and South America is more in our long-term economic interest than Libya.
In any case it makes a lot of sense to diversify manufacturing locations. My company after all has its PROD and BCP centers at least a thousand miles from each other. The Sendai earthquake has reawakened the need for that kind of thinking.

I absolutley like this idea. Imagine college professors being able to produce podcast notes (some type of e-book podcast) and students being able to download them.
I also see it being useful for short things like Cliff Notes, written (typed) podcasts, concert programs, newspaper or magazine subscriptions but not front line books. Although, it could work in concert with Project Gutenberg or UPenn's online book programs. The extra screen real estate would be important.

The sort of money you put down on a Mac you shouldn't expect anything less than USB 3.0 from here on out. Core 2 Duo in 2010 leaves a lot to be desired.
This is pretty academic, since you've always paid a premium for the Apple logo. Rarely does a Mac laptop have cutting edge hardware across the board (see the graphics cards in laptops for an example of something that seems always a generation or more behind). The sad reality is that even though you're right, they'll continue to sell those laptops at a prodigious rate. Most people don't care about technical specs as much as they do the overall user experience.

Cool. Maybe alongside this magical 3D display technology, they can magically figure out how to put ANOTHER SPEAKER IN IT SO WE CAN HEAR IN GLORIOUS 1950s STEREO!!!

I think reading from my ipod would give me headaches..... It would maybe be okay for short stories or headlines you could load on it, but a whole book??? cmon even if they make a big screen it would never be bigger than the screen of a paperback and just imagine if reading a really long text from the computer strains some peoples eyes what would a small screen do to you?

Useless for me with the iPhone. I charge it via USB anyway, so will just do sync'ing and updates then. Doesn't solve any problems.
With the iPad however, it does help since USB charging is so slow. I don't sync my iPad that often as a result. Although I hope this really means wireless sync'ing, updates are infrequent enough that I don't really care if I have to plug it in.

Just installed the update on a week 39 MB. So far so good.
However, iStat Nano (the latest one from today) can't read the temp. It's got a new 'Fans' setting, but no joy there either.
FanControl and CoreDuoTemp finally agree, however, on the temperature. Previously CoreDuoTemp showed the temp at boot-up, or out of sleep, which was why I was reporting 19C. Now the temp under minimal load hovers around 50-54 - which is fine.

I don't get it - if Wal-mart doesn't sell something does that mean no-one will buy it - at all? Just go elsewhere to get what you want.
Disclaimer: I am not defending Wal-Mart I think they have some very poor business practices and I rarely shop there.
In rural America a lot of the time there is not other choice than Wal-Mart. I know people that drive 40 miles to get to a town that has a Wal-Mart to do all their shopping. It would be over 100 miles to get to a city with a BestBuy or some other store that sells DVDs. For a lot of people, if they don't have it at Wal-Mart, it doesnt exist. I know this is sad but it is true.
I know Wal-Mart has a lot of bad practices, they treat their employees like crap, kill small companies that cant meet there supply requirements, etc. But, just a reminder, they are (for the most part) operating WITHIN THE LAW. So if you really disagree with what Wal-Mart does, you should contact your legislator and ask them to support laws that curtail these activities or contact your local district attorney's office if you think they are breaking the law.

well aside from the obvious items for refreshing/new products:
Mac Pro (towers)
Mac Mini (a lil more there for the $$)
Macbook Pro (merom Processor + faster GPU maybe new body)
xServe (well needs Intel power)
I would LOVE to get a lil ole Apple made Airplane/Auto power adapter for the Macsafe power of portables.
Why is it taking so long for this?

Heh, what Adobe should do, for video purposes, is try and make something that converts the flash file the user views into a video file when viewed by the user on the iphone. I don't know much about flash but I think it could work. As I think there is always a video file somewhere near that flash file.
But then I don't know. This is based off of what little I know.

My take on this is that in order for the iPOD Classic to survive, it needs the larger HDs now available, IOS & a touch screen. Then it would be essentially a tiny iPAD + a large capacity iPOD and I think some people not wanting to carry around such a large device as the iPAD might like that.
Otherwise, if sales are sluggish, they'll have no choice but to euthanize it. Pity, because it's still the only Apple device that many people can fit their ENTIRE music collection on. My iPhone certainly doesn't and doesn't for many people.

Besides, no more Intel Core Solo in Mac Mini.
$599 - $579 Academic (3.5% off) Big Whoop.
1.66GHz Intel Core Duo processor
2MB L2 Cache
667MHz Frontside Bus
512MB memory (667MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
60GB Serial ATA hard drive
Combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0
Apple Remote
Core 2 Duo will follow after their supply of Core 2 Duo can keep up with other model's needs first - my guess is by Thanksgiving. :) So that report of fulfillment of an order for a Core Solo with a Core Duo was not a screw up mistake on Apple's end. He was just the first to get one.
