Who cares about Flash? Most of the time it's used, it's because the web designers are too dumb or lazy to get the page right without it, because they haven't kept out with what a modern browser is capable of.
Wow, the level of ignorance concerning Flash from all of the 'Experts' out there. Take a few minutes and Google for "Adobe Flex" and "Adobe Air" which are based on Flash. Yes the advertising is annoying. But so are those done by animated GIFs
And for those that think HTML 5 will solve world hunger ask yourself when the last time any browser vendor implemented an HTML spec completely, correctly and the same as every other vendor. Do you really think everybody is going to all the vendors will get together and sing Kumbaya? Do you really think you will be able to code just one version of your really cool web app...? Time for a reality check.
We use Flex and have yet had to recode anything becuase of a browser version change. Our web application works the same in IE 6 and Firefox 2.0 as it does in IE 8 and Firefox 3.5. Runs the same on Linux, Mac, Windows.
Enjoy your HTML, I will enjoy being lazy and support all browsers from a single code base. I will beg to differ with you though on who is dumber here. :)

Ever owned a 12" powerbook? I have two.
There's a reason a lot of 12" powerbook owners rave on about them. The form factor is very neat. It sure isn't about how powerful they are :).
i can vouch for that...as much as i love the 13" screen, the 12" are much more portable and easy to carry around. its great how they manage to fit a full sized keyboard in sucha small space. i still love mine...tho im trying to sell!

That is if America is under immediate threat, hence Bush's big case about WMDs before invading Iraq. America was under no threat from Libya. The President cannot simply go to war because he feels like it. That is definitely not a power he has by the Constitution but it is a power he'll take nonetheless.
This was my impression as well. If correct, Obama has no business doing what he's done--right, wrong, paid for or not. Personally, I'm glad somebody's stopping Gaddafi from acting unchecked--but that doesn't excuse circumventing the constitution to do so.
That said, if the President does have the authority to call for such action irrespective of a clear and present danger to the security of the USA, then more power to him.

What happened to the MacBook Pros with Merom? Not that I'm complaining about the iMac, but don't you all think that the professionals are the ones most in need of the Core 2 Duo right now? Most average Joe iMac consumers aren't even going to notice that the Core 2 Duo is in their machine, and even if they do, it's probably not going to make that much of a difference running Mail and Safari.
I hope Apple has enough Merom chips to launch MBP Merom soon...wasn't there some sort of rationing going on from Intel because of the high demand?
Argh.

Ok I guess i won't be able to get the new nano with the student offer, which doesn;t bother me that much as I *should* get a hundred pounds back. However as it seems the price has gone down a little on the 4GB nano i added does that mean i still have to pay the old price? That seems a little unfair when it hasn't even shipped yet I'm paying more then if I had waited a couple of days? I ordered on Friday btw.

No, It doesn't.
this is funny, this one subject is really bringing out the mac and windows hardcores!
I fall into both categories so I like to think im neutral. What I see in Time Machine is System Restore:The Next Generation
System restore did allow you to step back in time thru save points to a point where everything was ok.
Apple have taken it even further by allowing you to do this firstly on the fly, and have also given you the ability to pick out a single file or files to restore. By allowing it to backup to other media they also allow you to recover from a dead hd... all in all a nice feature... shame the space design looks a little naff. personally i would have prefered if they had just gone with there normal shiny black (like frontrow).

Apple also doesn't have to sell their products in every store. I am sure Apple could say that they couldn't do that if they want to continue selling the iPad 2. I'd be very surprised if Apple knew about this and allowed it.
My guess is that since managers are pressuring the sales staff to sell the add-ons so hard, that they are just saying its required.
Working in a retail shop (photo goods); I can say that margins on hard goods is so razor thin, requiring ad-ons makes sense. It also keeps scalpers away for the likes of the iPad 2.

I wonder what breaks more often, the hard drives fitted in the classic or the fragile touch screens of the iPod touch?
I know many people who've had iPod hard drives crap out on them. I don't know anyone who has an iPhone or Touch who has actually cracked their screen.

Kind of cool... the icon is back to iTunes 2... :)

Also, anybody else got this? :D
Love the new look, but I'm not sure about the library/store/devices/playlist area... the new one takes a lot more room than the old one... :(

Sorry about the MacBook Pro 'hoax'. We had got a few tips but didn't realize it was a concerted effort to make us look bad. We'll do betterPeople really have nothing better to do than come up with a conspiracy to trick 9to5? Oh wait, how much time have I spent here in this thread?

We're not Anti-military, we're anti-spending billions on crap we don't need. Like extremely expensive fighter jets, as if we get into dogfights with the Taliban.
But, what if we go to war with Iran? We need a plane to counter those F-14 Tomcats..... :p
Like I said in my previous post, I believe the F-22 Raptor is a necessary aircraft to have developed and built. We just don't need a sizable fleet of them right now.
The only thing right now that concerns me is when there is a time of war and we need to build more Raptors quickly, can our reduced manufacturing base keep up with the war effort?

Do we have to shut down our computer before removing the battery?
thanks! :)
Nope, you don't need to shut down before removing the battery.
I was just thinking of this
So you can't take any liquids on an airplane but you can bring your exploding Dell laptop? :)

I am picturing you steering right to go down a list, left to go up and honking each time you want to middle button. :)
Now that would be fun. :D On the back of the steering wheeling in my Jeep there are buttons for volume +/-, station +/-, seek and input select. The adapter I bought plugs into the factory radio's wiring harness and makes the stereo think it has a CD changer pulgged in. The seek button cycles through play lists while the station +/- lets you change tracks. It is pretty nifty.
My HD based iPods that failed from too much time on the back of a motorcycle didn't show signs of failing. They just farted out and unhappy faced me out of the blue.
The first time mine did that it took me about a week of fiddling with it before I was able to get the drive reformated.
You know, it's like the headphones with remote and mic w/ volume controls never happened to half you folk. After a very short and easy learning curve, it's even easier to interact for basic functions than the wheel. One of the projects that's on my list of to-dos before my South American ride is to rig a control scheme.
True, but I already had the iPod Video with real buttons and the BT adapter I was using was only a transmitter. Sure I could make the transition to the touch. I was just pointing out that buttons weren't useless. ;)
As for your trip, you don't need to rig anythig up. I have a Belkin SportCommand (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/belkin-sportcommand-fabric-remote-for-ipod/) that works great on the bike. I just strap it to my left thigh and have full control over the iPod stuffed in a bag. Just drop your hand down to the control and you don't even have to take your eyes off the road.
Unfortunately I was just looking and they may not make it any longer. There are other, similar, solutions out there.
South American ride? I want to go!
